How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post. You must have a current driving licence as you will be required to travel widely within the authority. You will have a good level of competence in literacy and able to interpret information in a variety of formats including bespoke or standard ICT systems, maps, and specifications from paper or on hand-held technology. It is essential for you to have awareness of disability, the needs of older people and the role of equipment and adaptations in maintaining independence and wellbeing. You must also have knowledge of Health and Safety practices when using tools and equipment in people's homes. We require you to have experience in using a range of handheld and power tools and know how to apply them to different tasks. Given the safe working practice elements of this role, you will have in-depth knowledge and experience of risk assessment and Health & Safety legislation as it relates to the operational tasks associated with building modifications. You will have in depth knowledge of property types and experience of modifying buildings by installing fixtures and fittings. It is essential that you have a relevant Craftsman, Trade, engineering, or similar qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience. You will work as part of a team and assist or cover for Technician colleagues to ensure the work across locations is completed. You will need to maintain material and equipment stock and order where necessary. It will be your responsibility to manage your own workload, including planning preparation, construction work, and home visits. You will install small appliances connected to radio, television, and telephone to assist people with hearing impairment. On a daily basis, you will use portable electric powered tools and a wide range of hand tools together with larger workshop woodworking machinery.īy ensuring safe, effective and secure installation you will undertake adaptation and construction work using different building techniques and materials. It will be key for you to design and build basic equipment to meet individual needs, as well as making and fitting minor adaptations including grab rails and handrails. Working alongside Adult Social care and the NHS, as an Occupational Therapy Technician, you will have a genuine ability to challenge your own expertise, design solutions and use your knowledge and professional capabilities for the benefit of the residents of South Gloucestershire. Utilising your skills and expertise to design, make and install minor adaptations that may avoid unnecessary admissions to hospital or care homes, or facilitate timely discharge and a safe return to home from hospital. You will directly have a positive impact on the ability of older and disabled adults to live independently, safely and with dignity in their own home.
